Actress and fashion designer Kristin Cavallari has revealed via her Instagram page an exclusive first look at some styles from her fall shoe collection. The sneak peek picture is a “regram” from @peoplestylewatchmag and shows a double d’Orsay pump and a cut-out peep toe bootie. Both heels are in the same black and white painted animal print which Kristin predicts “is going to be huge for fall.”
Unfortunately Kristin has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons lately. She and her husband have decided not to vaccinate their children, seemingly because of a perceived link between vaccination and autism (“I’ve read too many books about autism,” Kristin said when probed on the question earlier this week, as if reading a few books could somehow displace the weight of accepted scientific and medical opinion.)
Personally I think she should stick to designing shoes and leave the science to the scientists: there is no tangible evidence of a casual link between ingredients in vaccinations and autism, as this immunologist has pointed out. The scientist also points out that not vaccinating your kids is a terrific way to give them a chance of dying of completely preventable diseases. Anyhow, this act of insanity aside, it’s back to the shoes.
Kristin Cavallari has been designing for young-women orientated label Chinese Laundry for a while now, and she certainly has produced some lovely and popular pieces. We’ve featured two fabulous new shoes in this article. The high heels above are called Kalea. This open-sided, ankle strap shoe has a polished leather upper and a 4.5 inch heel. It’s available at Zappos for $149.95.
Chunky, four strap high heeled sandals are second new treat dished up recently by the Kristin Cavallari Collection for Chinese Laundry. The all leather upper of this shoe sits atop a 5.25 inch heel with a 0.5 inch platform. Called Lark, these shoes are now available from Zappos for $189.95.
Longstanding French brand Emanuel Ungaro has arrived with a splash at Net-A-Porter. The label is brand new to Net-A-Porter which is currently stocking only one pair of stilettos, plus some designer sweaters and skirts. But what a pair of shoes it is: 4.5 inch, wrap-around, leather sandals with pleated organza ruffles! The heels are from Ungaro’s Spring / Summer 2014 collection and they’re certainly proving popular: most sizes are already sold out or in limited supply despite the product just arriving. If you’d like a pair, they’re available at Net-A-Porter for $1,645.
The sandals may be new, but the label they come from was founded by Emanuel Ungaro himself way back in 1965. The House of Emanuel Ungaro has been based on Avenue Montaigne in Paris’s couture fashion district since 1967, although Mr Ungaro departed in 2004. The heels above were produced under the the Sicilian designer Fausto Puglisi, who has been the Creative Director of the Emanuel Ungaro brand for about a year. Puglisi was reportedly hired to get the Ungaro name back on track, and so far it looks like he’s going well. It is obviously early days but having a pair of designer stilettos look like selling out quickly on Net-A-Porter is a good sign.
Net-A-Porter also recently featured the sandals on the feet of actress Zoe Saldana. The shoot was for the 13 March 2014 edition Net-A-Porter’s magazine The Edit, which has Salanda on the cover. Click on the link to go to the magazine. The picture of Salanda in Ungaro is below.
Jimmy Choo’s Catwalk Collection for Spring / Summer 2014 has arrived in store, and there are some hawt numbers included. None more than Keane, the bondage-sexy knee-high rope sandals which we’ve featured above. The intricate knotting details which comprise the uppers of these €1,395 high heel sandals are hand-constructed entirely from rope, but Jimmy Choo promises they will still provide enough support for a comfortable fit.
The knotty stilettos certainly look sensational on the long legs of Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman who returns to showcase a Choo collection for the third time. Nicole is photographed here in the rope gladiators by famous photographer Sølve Sundsbø. There are more glimpses of Nicole and the Keane heels in the video celebrating the launch of Jimmy Choo’s Spring / Summer 2014 collection which is at the bottom of this post.
The best news (in case you were wondering) is that you don’t have to knot up these black and gold elaphe and rope stappy sandals every time you put them on! There’s a long zip fastner at the rear of the shoe, which also features the degrade patterning that we’ve seen on Choos in recent times. And the use of rope is not a Fifty Shades throw-back: the “modern jungle” is the inspiration for the 2014 collection, so its more a nod to Tarzan I guess.
Kylie Minogue has been rocking stilettos since she stepped out of Charlene’s workboots in Neighbours, which is pretty much forever. The Aussie star has always posted plenty of high heel pictures on her social media sites and her 2014 shoe collection is better than ever. Is it the best in the world? Maybe. Are we jealous? Yes!
Below are the high heel pictures Kylie has posted on her Instagram page this year.
On 26 February 2014 Kylie’s shoe of the day (tagged #shoeoftheday) was a pair of glittering Dolce & Gabbana stiletto sandals (see below).
Kylie Minogue’s shoe of the day on 7 February 2014 was by Casadei. She’s wearing the designer’s iconic Blade pointed toe pump in pink nappa leather. Blade has a 4.5 inch silver laquered heel made from real steel, with a 0.4 inch concealed plateau. The pink stilettos retail from Casadei for around $690 (€620).
Kylie’s shoe of the day for 3 February 2014 was a versatile and understated black Giuseppe Zanotti pump. Her Instagram selfie was taken during a photo shoot for New York based Australian fashion photographer Will Davidson.
Last but not least come the Christian Louboutins. Kylie nominated her red soled stilettos as her daily shoe pick on 29 January 2014. The shoes are the towering 120mm (5 inch) So Kate heels, seen here in a multi-colored design on a python skin upper. O.M.G.
Bad-ass supermodel Kate Moss has appeared on the cover of Playboy’s 60th anniversary edition wearing a pair of Saint Laurent high heels. The stilettos are Saint Laurent’s classic Paris Escarpins (“escarpin” is French for a high heeled pump). The shoe is the signature pump of the French brand still commonly known as Yves Saint Laurent (or YSL) even though the “Yves” was dropped from the women’s ready-to-wear line back in 2012.
Paris is notable for its square suspended high heel which is visible on Kate’s pair above, but can be seen better in the close up below. According to the Saint Laurent website the shoes have a 10.5cm high heel (4.2 inch) high heel and are made in Italy of 100% calf-skin leather.
The Kate Moss Playboy photoset for the January / February 2014 edition was “shot” by fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. The duo shared the above picture of the official US cover via their Instagram account back at the end of 2013. I haven’t seen the photos (and good God I don’t want to) but if the cover is any guide then Kate’s Saint Laurent high heels are the only thing about the pictures that haven’t been photoshopped within an inch of their life.
When the star turned up to publicise the Playboy anniversary edition at a signing at the Marc Jacobs store in London, she was all but unrecognisable from the cover photo. Gone were the Saint Laurent pumps, replaced by a pair of red-soled Christian Louboutin pumps.
More significantly though, gone were the smooth tanned legs from the cover photo. The reality instead disclosed that Kate has two crooked, veiny, misshapen, wrinkled and probably misaligned pins that reflect all the hard-living and body-bashing that the model has inflicted on herself over a 25 year career. As for her top half, I couldn’t bear to look.
Still, aren’t the shoes nice?
Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr started the year on the right foot by stepping out in new season black leather high heeled sandals from Casadei. The Casadei label is a real celebrity favorite, and these evening sandals are perfect for walking the red carpet. In this case Miranda was photographed heading to the Golden Globe Awards after party in Hollywood California.
The Golden Globes is just another day in the life for a model whose star has risen higher and higher in recent years: so high in fact that in 2013 Miranda was named by Forbes Magazine as the world’s second highest earning model. Forbes’ earnings estimate for Miranda Kerr to June 2013 was $7.2 million, propelling her up the rankings from the seventh highest earner in 2012. She still has a way to go to catch the world’s highest earning model though: Forbes estimates that Brazilian beauty Gisele Bündchen pulled in a cool $42 million in the same period.
Miranda’s shoes are called Trikini from Casadei’s Spring / Summer 2014 collection. The sandals are made in Italy of a supple black nappa leather with gold hardware detailing, and fasten with a zip fastener at the back. Trikini has a 3.9 inch leather covered stiletto heel and retails from Casadei’s website for €660.
Hollywood screen icon Elizabeth Taylor is the inspiration for Mr Kandee’s latest creation: a pair of dazzling, rhinestone-covered booties with a 4.7 inch heel. The booties are called Taylor – appropriately enough – and their blinged-out nature is in keeping with the headline grabbing behaviour of a star who spent five decades gracing the silver screen. Elizabeth Taylor may have died of congestive heart failure in March 2011 but she lives on through this hand-made creation from Kandee shoes. The Taylor bootie retails for £250 exclusive to the Kandee website.
The silver colour of Kandee’s Taylor bootie is reminiscent of a famous Elizabeth Taylor high heel, which we’ve pictured above. This pair of silver evening sandals were worn by Elizabeth Taylor in the mid-1980s when her focus had turned from making movies to AIDs awareness and prevention (Taylor co-founded the American Foundation for AIDs research in 1985, and established the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in 1991).
This pair of Taylor’s silver high heeled sandals were bought at a charity auction to raise money for sick children in Wales. They were added to the collection at the Bata shoe Museum in Toronto, Canada where they are currently on display. The shoes are signed by Elizabeth Taylor and came with a letter of authenticity. They were designed by American designer Roy Halston Frowick (known to all as Halston).
With just less than a month to go until Valentine’s Day, it’s time to start thinking about footwear for that Valentine’s Day function. Whether you’re planning a romantic date with your partner, or a single girls’ night on the tiles, we think it will be hard to go past a pair of Luichiny shoes or boots – the brand that wears its heart on its sole.
<UPDATE, February 2018: These boots retailed through heels for $109.99 way back in 2014. They are no longer available. If the position changes, this post will be updated with a link.>
Each pair of Luichiny shoes has a strategically placed red love heart on the sole of the shoe, and the brand’s boots also follow this trend. Luichiny is one of a growing group of labels that focuses on eye-catching designs at reasonable prices (think Privileged, Jeffrey Campbell, Irregular Choice etc).
The Luichiny brand itself has been around for several years now, having been purchased by Demand Shoes of Missouri in December 2005. The original designer’s name was Luis, and the name Luichiny was created partially using his name (the correct pronunciation of the brandname is loo-che’-nee). So now you know.
Luichiny made headlines on Valentine’s Day 2013 when actress Sutton Foster wore a pair of Luichiny shoes on the Late, Late Show that day. After sitting down to be interviewed by Craig Ferguson, Sutton flashed a heart-stamped sole to the admiring host and audience. You can catch a video of that interview below.
Meanwhile, what better way to stamp your mark on Valentine’s Day 2014 than with a six inch no-nonsense boot with a two inch platform? Lovers everywhere be warned…
Craig Ferguson interviews Sutton Foster:
Ever since Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoe line the SJP collection was announced way back in June 2013 the brand has been slowly teasing its social media followers with hints and glimpses of what is to come when the collection finally debuts at selected Nordstrom stores and via Nordstrom.com on 28 February 2014. Some things are starting to become clear: although it has been nearly 10 years since Sex and the City finished up, it now seems certain that the collection will draw heavily on its celebrity designer’s roots in the iconic TV show. Of course Carrie Bradshaw – SJP’s character in SATC – was famous for loving designer shoes of all kinds, but she had a particular soft spot for Manolo Blahnik. And in what can only be life imitating art, the SJP collection is being produced in association with no less than George Malkemus, the president of Manolo Blahnik USA.
It’s probably no surprise then that SJP has today revealed via Instagram a strappy, closed-toe, single-sole pump called Carrie! Purplish in color (this may be SJP’s version of navy blue, but it looks purple enough to me), the Carrie has a low-riding T-strap and features four criss-crossing straps of the same hue near the pointed toe of the shoe. It might perhaps be said that this high heel would have been a little conservative for Ms Bradshaw back when she was ripping it up in her glory days, but the shoe is lovely and I can see how this classical, understated design could appeal to a wide audience.
If the SJP Collection has got its slow-reveal social media policy right – and that itself will be an interesting question – the Carrie pump should fly off the shelves when it finally becomes available next month. We’ll certainly be watching with interest. One thing we are sure about right now is that the SJP Collection will be using plenty of the purple / navy / French navy color used in the Carrie shoe in some of Sarah Jessica Parker’s other shoe designs too. Here’s a close-up of another of the Italian-made high heels below, also from the SJP Collection‘s Instagram page (and yup, the page is run by SJP herself apparently).
It’s official: Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria loves Brian Atwood shoes. And she doesn’t just love them – Eva tweeted earlier this week that Brian Atwood is actually her favourite brand!
“Can’t be in NYC without going to my fav shoe store! @Brian_Atwood,” the star tweeted on 23 October 2013. Her tweet was accompanied by this picture of the Atwood logo accompanied by what we can only assume is Eva’s foot.
Eva has certainly been seen in plenty of very pretty Brian Atwood high heels over the past little while, in amongst other designers such as Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin and Casadei amongst others. But she definitely has a passion for Brian Atwood shoes right now: in June 2013 Eva was asked by Flare magazine what her favourite item in her closet was right now. “Oh, God,” she replied, “That’s hard. I love bags and shoes, so I would say my Brian Atwood shoes right now – all of them.”
If, like Eva, you also have a shoe crush on Brian Atwood, you can check out more of our articles on the designer’s creations here.
