Name That Shoe: Elizabeth Olsen at Cannes Film Festival

Ashley Olsen and Mary Kate Olsen (most often referred to as the “Olsen Twins”) have made their mark both as film stars and as leading ladies of fashion. Now their younger sister Elizabeth has broken onto the scene as a new stylish one to watch. Here she attends an event at the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival wearing a slinky black dress and a pair of jewel encrusted high heels.

The name of that shoe? It’s none other than the Hangisi pump by Manolo Blahnik. The pair was made famous by the hit movie Sex and the City, when leading character Carrie Bradshaw christens a penthouse closet with a blue pair. Watch the scene here. The shoes retail for $945 and are available and fine department stores like Nordstrom.

Best Heeled: Kid’s Choice & Country Music Awards

Though the major centerpiece events of award season are several weeks in the past, last weekend two more ceremonies took place that produced plenty of red carpet fashion fodder. We were, of course, on the lookout for the hottest heels and spotted a little bit of a trend in our favorite pairs: bootie sandals! Above,Heidi Klum at the Kids’ Choice Awards wears a pair that take the cake. Crazy high & crazy haute!

Amanda Seyfried Wears Lanvin’s ‘Killer’ Pumps

Last November the Lanvin Spring 2011 fashion show made news not for it’s gorgeous flowing dresses, but for the killer heels that many of the pro models were simply unable to manage. The beautiful, though apparently tortuous, shoes weren’t doomed to Lanvin archives, however, as a few actresses have braved them on the red carpet.

The latest is Amanda Seyfried, who arrived for the premier of “Red Riding Hood” wearing a wine-colored cocktail dress and a pair of ankle-strapped tan pumps from the infamous Lanvin collection. It looks like Seyfried chose one of the more manageable styles for her red carpet appearance. She still deserves kudos because they look great! Have a look at some of the other style from the collection, along with a few flat sandals that had to stand in for the killer shoes.

Shoe Designers Prepare for Oscar Night

Hollywood’s biggest night is just days away and the excitement is growing. The anticipation for the Academy Awards isn’t just about who will win an Oscar, it’s also about what the stars will wear on the red carpet!

Having a well-known actor wear your clothing on such a big night is a huge honor for a designer – including those that create the gorgeous shoes to complement the gowns. Though hundreds will walk the carpet this Sunday, those favored to win awards will have the lights shining brighter than ever on the them.

For the potential heel-wearing ladies this include Black Swan star Natalie Portman (pictured above at the 2011 SAG Awards), who is heavily pregnant and will have to mitigate choices between comfort and style. Here’s what a few top shoe designers had to say about the event. Shoes by (top to bottom) Stuart Weitzman, Jimmy Choo, & Giuseppe Zanotti.

“[Stuart Weitzman] said he thinks this awards show would see lots of ornate crystal embellishments on shoes, he was mum about what he had planned, and who would wear his famous one-of-a-kind Oscar designs down the red carpet.”

“Jimmy Choo founder and chief creative officer Tamara Mellon said red carpet looks are part of the brand’s DNA, but she won’t know until the big night what celebs chose to strut in her styles. ‘I’d love to see Natalie Portman, who is divine, [in our shoes],’ she said.”

“Giuseppe Zanotti, however, is a little more superstitious when it comes to predicting both award winners and who will wear his shoes on the red carpet. ‘It’s bad luck when you say it,’ the designer told Footwear News”

For Grammys Footwear It Was All About Sparkle

Of all the award shows the Grammys seems to feature the most divalicious fashion. It must be that musicians are more prone to take fashion risks and be daring with over-the-top glam. In keeping with that sentiment, this year’s Grammy Awards red carpet featured a definite trend toward super sparkly high heels. Whether all-over sparkle or just some high-shine embellishments, celebrity feet were as blinged out as their fingers, wrists and ears. Above, Jennifer Lopez in Christian Louboutin.

Cheap Affordable Shoes on the Red Carpet

Natalie Portman was seen on the red carpet recently wearing a pair of beautiful black, peep-toe pumps. The award-winning actress wore the shoes with a black dress to the Director’s Guild of America awards this past weekend. It’s not surprising that Portman chose a fabulous pair of shoes – what’s surprising is that they only cost $90! photos: zimbio.com

That’s right: less than US$100 for her red carpet look. It’s not an amount for the average Jane to spit at, but we’re so used to seeing celebs wear outrageously priced designer shoes – both on the red carpet and off.

Instead, the mom-to-be wore a lovely pair that many people can replicate in their own wardrobes. They are the “Labrie” satin pumps by ALDO and they are available at the Aldo website. UPDATE, March 2016: these shoes are no longer available.

Kudos to Natalie for her practical and pretty choice!

Golden Globes 2011: Best-Heeled List

Awards season is still charging on and this past weekend we were treated to the #2 on the totem pole show – the Golden Globes. The Academy Awards are, of course, the head honcho in the red carpet style candy department. But since the Oscars don’t take place for another month and some change, the Globes give us just the right amount of glamor to tide us over. Here’s our list of the even’s Best-Heeled celebs. Above, Olivia Wilde plays a dark princess in a sparkling black gown with full skirt, complemented by the spiky “Briget’s Back” booties by Christain Louboutin.

Leighton Meester adds some glamour to her bohemian chic dress. The long sleeves and shine-free fabric are rare on the red carpet, but that’s what makes her stand out. Plus, she was sure to add sparkle with her “Zafira” Jimmy Choo heels.

Heidi Klum does Marc Jacobs pround wearing both dress and shoes from the designer’s Spring 2011 collection. Hers was one of very few patterned gowns of the evening. It’s a look that, with flat shoes, might even be considered casual. But the strappy platform sandals make sure that’s not the case here.

Like Heidi, Halle Berry shows us all that being a mom in your 40s in no way means that you can be the height of sexy. For the Globes the actress went full throttle in her bombshell mode with super short mini dress masquerading on a long gown. The look was all about skin and her barely-there strappy sandals acheived their purpose perfectly.

People’s Choice Awards – Best Heeled List

The People’s Choice awards took place this week, signalling that awards season has officially started! While many will be watching closely to see who wins what, fashion lovers will simply be watching for the year’s best red carpet eye candy. For many it’s the dress that takes center stage, but we at HHD have a particular yen for shoes – especially the high-heeled variety! Here’s our version of a best-dressed list: the top 10 best heeled for the 2011 People’s Choice Awards.

AnnaLynne McCord‘s Christian Louboutin slingbacks are the perfect pair for her bright blue dress.

Vanessa Williams also goes with the mighty Louboutin, but chooses the very glitzy “Marlena Flame” which are available at Bergdorf Goodman.

Lots of stars chose nude pumps for the evening, but Taylor Swift‘s choice stood out for their criss-crossed sandal design.

These peep toe pumps Selena Gomez wore have a surprise blinged-out heel. Get a closer look at these Giuseppe Zanotti heels at Yoox.com

Lyndsy Fonseca chose basic black pumps, but they have an adorable twist: a leather bow in the back that perfectly compliments the classic silhouette of her dress.

These sandals, worn by Lisa Edelstein, are the kind of versatile, but glamourous sandals that every woman should have. And they match her dress perfectly!

Laura Spencer is wearing one of YSL’s very popular “Iconic” heel. The gold color is the perfect bit of shine to go with her berry-colored dress.

The pink satin of these high heels is just the right amount of softness to lighten up Emma Roberts‘ black dress look. And they match her earrings!

Cat Deeley is yet another celeb wearing Louboutins on the red(blue) carpet. But she choice a spiked pair for her lady-like dress, adding a little edgy surprise on her feet.

If not for the shoes, Ashley Bell‘s look would have been a bit dull. She could have use some sparkle around her neck, but the gorgeous sparkle on her feet makes up for it.

Whose Heels Are These?

Wednesday evening in New York city saw a parade VIP strutting down the red carpet for the NYC & Company Foundation Leadership Awards Gala. Those in attendance included designer Diane Von Furstenberg, Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour, model Carolyn Murphy, and a host of other celebrities and fashion industry insiders. The gala raised over $1 million in funds to benefit the foundation, which helps sustain the city’s nonprofit cultural community.

In addition to the fantastic cause, there was some stellar style seen on the red carpet. Including the above strappy, high heeled sandals. So who ware these sexy shoes? It’s actress Leelee Sobieski. She wears the shoes with a chic little black dress with trendy lace sleeves. What a great way to add a touch of color!
