Heel condoms are shoe covers for stiletto heels

Heel condoms sound like a bad idea, but perhaps they’re just a bad name? In 2010, an innovative shoe-decoration hit the market (or at least hit marketers- we can’t find any evidence that the product actually made it for sale).

The “heel condoms” as they are called slip on to your heel and make a party at the back of your stiletto where once was just a plain heel. So far so good: they’re an idea to spice up your shoe wardrobe that’s actually quite brilliant.

So heel condoms are clever little devices that turn plain pumps into interesting and unique high heels. They are a great way to try a trend – say, leopard print or lace – without having to invest cash in shoes that might be out of date before you’ve even gotten their money’s worth. What’s not to love?

Unfortunately, that brilliance didn’t extend to the product name. In the end, heel condoms never really took off (ugh!) and they’re just another shoe decoration trend of the 2010s that is best forgotten.

In fairness to the inventor, the price of heels tumbled after the product was released and it really isn’t that expensive to have multiple heels in your wardrobe now without rolling prophylactic devices up their delicate shafts.
