Are scruffy work pumps ever OK?

There’s a really simple answer to whether scruffy, dirty, ripped, scuffed or otherwise over-worn shoes are OK for the office. The answer is no! They are never OK.

The streets of any major or not-so-major city can be brutal on heels, scuffing and chipping leather uppers, nicking soles and scratching stilettos. Weather also plays its part as rain and even wind can damage heels.

Mud is bad for high heels

People notice work pumps. Your clients and colleagues may not say anything, but they will notice. And if your pumps look tatty and tired this may reflect on you.

The reason that it is not OK to wear worn heels in the office is that it looks unprofessional and sloppy. With the price of shoes today there really is no excuse for keeping going with a pair which are past their use-by date.

So do yourself a favor and take your shoes to the shoe guy to get them mended if they’re showing signs of wear. Or better yet buy yourself a new pair or three.

You should be able to pick up a decent pair of work pumps for under $100. Check our awards for the best work shoes for some suggestions.
