I have a confession to make. You see I am a bit of a Kate Middleton tragic.
Perhaps one of the most wonderful things Kate has unwittingly introduced me to is LK Bennett heels. Great work Kate or Natasha Archer (Kate’s stylist) or maybe it is actually Camilla (she is apparently a fan too). Anyway, whoever put Kate in LKB was certainly onto a very good shoe!
I will confess I had never heard of LKB before Kate debuted the Sledge pump in neutral. There have been many memorable Kate Sledge moments – think the Canadian tour in 2011 for starters – and the shoe of course has been everywhere and on everyone in the decade that followed.
I was never drawn to the Sledge itself but it certainly turned my head and I started to inspect LKBs to find the perfect work pumps.
Initially I was drawn to the Stila, a high patent alternative to the Sledge (just with no cushioning).
But in more recent years I have become a Fern fan. I absolutely love the Fern and believe nearly every working woman should own a pair.
Here is my shoe review of LK Bennett’s Fern with four reasons why this heel should be a staple in your wardrobe too.
1. The leather is beautiful
My aunt once told me as a young girl (before I was old enough to appreciate heels) to look for Spanish leather.
It turns out her recommendation was bang on. The Fern is Spanish leather and it is quite simply the most beautiful and luxurious leather.
You can not go wrong with a Spanish-made heel.
2. The Fern lasts forever in shoe years
I really am partial to giving my heels a good workout. My days are long and hectic, rushing all places.
Of all the heels I have ever owned during my corporate career spanning the last decade and a half, I can tell you I have had many a heel that has lasted about 5 minutes. I have lamented over those shoes (labels shall not be named and shamed here) for all the money wasted on those seemingly disappointing purchases.
On average I have had each pair of Ferns for well over a year and I have subjected my Ferns to the usual wear and tear. Much longer if I have a few pairs of Fern on rotation.
Yes the Fern is by no means a cheap shoe: yet it isn’t quite up there with buying a pair of Choos or Ferragamos either. But to me, these shoes really do represent good value. They won’t be trashed in 5 minutes like other labels and you really do feel wonderful wearing them.
3. They come in a range of spectacular colours
LKB do Fern in leather – currently there is nude (which I love, it is classic) black, wine and coral.
They also do a range of beautiful suede shoes – almost every colour of the rainbow. I must admit I am not big on suede, but I have bought the Fern in suede in several colours because 1) the shoe is, in all respects, simply beautiful and 2) the colours are spectacular.
The lemon lime is my favourite and there is nothing better to give a tired black outfit a spruce than with Fern in the lemon lime. I get an instant energy boost and feel powerful and confident in a second.
While black might be the classic (and most popular) colour, once you get comfortable in Fern you can splash out with multiple shades. And comfort will not take long because…
4. Fern is turbo comfortable
People look at me strangely sometimes wondering how I could possibly say that a 4 inch pointed toe shoe is comfortable.
But the Fern is. Trust me.
I have no issue at all wearing Fern all day. I think it is something about the beautiful Spanish leather.
So there you are. If I had one recommendation it is to buy Fern and try it for yourself.
