In 2023, it’s time for Barbie to go party again. Yet could the party soon be over for her pretty pink heels?

Backless high heels like the shoes in the Barbie movie are pink and fluffy.

The trailer for the Barbie movie opens with a high heel scene featuring Margo Robbie walking serenely in a pair of pink high heel mules before slipping them off. The color and style of the shoes is instantly synonymous with the famous doll but there’s a further, deeper reference.

When Barbie removes her shoes, her feet stay in a bent arch position (heel up, toes down) as she walks off set.

The scene references one of Barbie dolls most notorious features since the toy was introduced in 1959: Barbie’s feet were permanently pointed downwards so that she could only wear heels.

A flexible ankle joint was introduced to some Barbies in 2015, meaning flats were now possible, but the pointed toe is seared into the national and international conscience.

The high arched scene hints at the plot of the movie too. Without giving anything away, Barbie’s feet suddenly lose their pointed look and she is set to leave Barbie World to explore the real world.

At this time nobody seems sure exactly what make of mules Margot Robbie is actually wearing in the scene. There’s no obvious branding, but it doesn’t seem likely that the shoes would be individually created for their brief appearance either.

Further details might later emerge.

In the meantime, we suggest that a similar look can be achieved with Cape Robbin’s faux fur mule sandals from Amazon (affiliate link).

These pink heels are from a brand which is well-known for comfort and for consistently achieving high ratings amongst wearers.
