Cameron Diaz is a celebrity who loves her high heels, and sometimes doesn’t love them so much either. Which is fine because we love Cameron whatever she chooses to wear.
In 2022, Cameron Diaz confessed she’d joined the charge to abandon heels, telling the Strategist that she couldn’t live without her Hokkas.
“I still have a long way to go on these hooves of mine, said Cameron, “so I decided to treat them more gently.”
The celeb even spruiked Hoka sneakers (affiliate link), saying she’d ordered in a pair years ago and hadn’t taken them off since. Hokas are well known for their extreme comfort but surely Cameron was teasing?
Has Cameron Diaz really given up high heels?
Many celebrities claim to have “given up” the heels, but usually the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
They might have transitioned to flats for more regular wear – hey they are more comfortable and practical, there’s no denying that – but the heels still come out for some big occasions.
Cameron Diaz seems to be no exception. In 2022, she came out of retirement to star in the appropriately named Back in Action.
Cameron appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to publicise the film and chat.
One of the topics was her 50th birthday and Cameron raised a red-soled Louboutin stiletto in the air to celebrate. So I think we can say she hasn’t entirely given up the high heels.
Cameron Diaz and heels
Of course Cameron has always done her own thing her own way. That’s part of her charm.
Back in 2005, Cameron starred in a movie where stilettos were the stars. And the publicity for that film showed Cameron doing what she does best – doing things her own way.
In Her Shoes featured Cameron as Maggie Feller, who shares nothing in common with her sister Rose except their shoe size.
Maggie goes through her sister’s amazing shoe collection discovering pumps, platform sandals, peep toes and even a pair of bright red high heel boots.
“Shoes like these should not be locked in a closet!” says Maggie in In Her Shoes. “They should be living a life of scandal, and passion, and getting screwed in an alleyway by a billionaire while his frigid wife waits in the limo thinking that he just went back into the bar to get his cellphone. These are cute too.”
In the publicity interviews for In Her Shoes, Toni Collette (who played Rose) dropped that Cameron had way more shoes than she did.
Cameron’s excuse was that she was a hoarder: “I’m sure I have more than her but I save shoes,” she said. “I don’t get rid of them. I have shoes from a long time ago. I keep them around because I know I’m never going to get them again.”
The duo appeared on Australian TV to promote the film on 20 September 2005. Toni wore pumps but Cameron had flats on.
That enabled Cameron to make quite the entrance – by leaping over host Rove McManus’s couch. It’s difficult to do that in pumps.
Toni conceded “we live in Ugg boots, trainers and flip flops / thongs”. Cameron meanwhile was clear that she didn’t feel the pressure to get around in nice footwear just because she was making a movie about shoes.
And here’s perhaps the best thing about Cameron Diaz: in the Australian interview she told Rove McManus exactly her thoughts on whether she cared about how she looked and what other people thought.
“I don’t give a shit what anyone thinks”, said Cameron.
Words for life those ones.
