Faye from Jimmy Choo’s new Icons collection is a “sexing up” of Murial, a shoe that was embellished on its front with a glittery corsage.
On Faye the flower has been exaggerated in ruby silk, contrasting with the zebra-print calf hair of the sandal.
The changes show how fashion evolves and how what was once shocking can be almost lame these days.
“To go back in time is so much fun because each shoe tells a story to me”, Jimmy Choo founder and Chief Creative Officer Tamara Mellon explains. “We look at Muriel – we thought that was
exaggerated at the time and then you look at how we do her today and there’s so much more fantasy.”
“What is really part of our DNA is a sense of having fun – being sexy but sitting on the right side of sexy – using color print animal prints,” Tamara concluded.
The Icons collection was recently launched to celebrate 15 years of Jimmy Choo. Each iconic high heel in the collection has been been “evolved” or “re-imagined” to produce a version of the shoe as it would look in today’s styles.
Faye has a 5 inch heel and retailed for £1,178.10 from net-a-porter (we have removed the link as the shoe is no longer for sale). As with all items in the Icons collection, 10% of net sales will go towards the Jimmy Choo Foundation which supports a number of women’s charities.
