Legendary shoe designer Manolo Blahnik will market his first eco-friendly high heels early next year, created in collaboration with apparel designer Marcia Patmos.
The funky sandals, pictured above, will be available in colour combinations of electric blue, black, nude and yellow and will retail for $895.
Instead of leather, the shoe’s straps will be made of the discarded skins of sustainably-farmed talapia fish (the skins resemble snakeskin) and raffia (a plant fibre that can be grown renewably).
The heels and insole will be constructed from ethically harvested cork.
Patmos has been designing on her own recently with the M.Patmos brand, after working with Tina Lutz as LUTZ & PATMOS for 10 years. The talented designer has a reputation for using socially conscious and eco-friendly production techniques and materials where possible, and was a winner of an Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award earlier this year.
Hopefully the collaboration between Marcia Patmos and Manolo Blahnik will be a success and we will see many more eco-friendly high heels in the future.
