Putting the Boot In

With fashionistas of the world descending on Milan this week to say ciao to the Spring Summer 2014 collections, it’s only fitting that an Italian designer stole the show with shoes on opening day. Salvatore Ferragamo sent his supers strutting down the runway in one of the most talked about show collections of opening day with fashion editors loving the squared toes, flared heels and seam details. While the SS14 collection is still a few months away from being widely available, Ferragamo promises not to leave you wanting with a selection of gorgeous knee high boots with 8.5cm spike heels from the FW 2013 collection. The best news? They can be worn right now.

With a pointy toe and an oversized metal grommet at the top of the boot, they add a splash of sass to any sartorial ensemble, taking you from front row to bar, shopping trip to night out with the girls with ease. The cut out strip between the top of the foot and toe ramps up the glam factor while the patent finish screams high fashion. The boots are also available in white or black calfskin. Priced £989 from Ferragamo.com.

These Boots Were Made for Walking

Hardly a week goes by when you don’t see a cool fashion blogger casually rocking a Zara staple. Its jewelry is the stuff of fashion folklore, instantly snapped up, seen everywhere from the red carpet to the sidewalk, and secured of a place in fashion folklore by virtue of its totally on-trend design. If you have missed out on any of the Zara statement pieces that sell out almost as soon as they go on sale we’re going to let you in on a little secret – these hot to trot faux snakeskin booties are in stock NOW.

The 4.33 inch heel is slender and shapely and covered in the same leather snakeskin as the rest of the boot. With an open too, sassy cut outs, animal print and lashings of lather, the bootie is about as rock-chic as you can get without investing in an electric guitar. We reckon the fash pack will be styling these with just about everything, from crisp white shirt and jean combos to pencil skirts and slinky dresses. Don’t let them beat you too it. $119.00 from Zara.com.

Lerre’s Beautiful Boots – Fall 2011

Lerre brings us a batch of drool-worthy boots for Fall 2011. They selection is glamourous, but streamlined and very sophisticated. Making a pair of high-heeled tall boots that are bright red, snakeskin and still chic is no small feat. We love the below pair even more – with it’s tone on tone color scheme and blend of suede and patent leather. It’s neutral enough to wear with anything, but sumptuous enought to still feel special. The collection has more than boots. We just happen to be obsessed with these at the moment. See more at RAW Shoes Blog

Heels in Print: Harper’s Bazaar Spain January 2011

Model Sheila Marquez appears in the January 2011 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Spain in a winter fashion editorial. Each look in the spread features a fur cape or jacket and a pair of furry boots. The boots shown above were an immediate favorite. Though they appear in a 2011 issue they are from the Fall 2010 collection by Barbara Bui. Get a closer look at the high-heeled beauties in the photos below. See the rest of the editorial here.

Name that Heel! Ashley Greene in Hollywood

Actress Ashley Greene was spotted in Hollywood recently while out for a casual dinner with her boyfriend Joe Jonas and his mother. Ashley’s plaid shirt and fresh-faced makeup are casual, but those boots are anything but! She’s wearing thigh-high black, patent leather, platform, high-heeled Cuissard boots by Casadei. We tend to think a simple pair of ballet flats would have looked great with her outfit, but maybe movie stars who date pop stars have different standards. The boots also come in brown suede and retail for US$1,400.

Hiking in High Heels?

It’s no secret that fashion very often prizes form over function. And the perfect case in point is the current phenomenon of high-heeled hiking boots. There’s a slew of them out there from high street to high end. They have all the elements of a traditional hiking boot: thick tread soles, sturdy laces, padded insoles… except that that have high heels that are 3, 4, even 5 inches. These certainly aren’t what you’ll want to wear to climb a mountain! But for those of you that like them just to be cute, they retail for $1,000 and are available at ssense.com

If you can’t afford (or think it’s silly) to spend a grand on a pair of hiking boots that are no good for hiking, there are plenty of more affordable options. Trend haven Topshop has a good pair that are less than $200. As a bonus these look like they might actually fare a little bit better in nasty weather than their more expensive counterparts. So at least your hike down a snowy sidewalk can be stylishly functional.
